ちょうどテロリズムをめぐって国際関係論の授業で議論をしたところで、この号外がiPadのNYTを通じて入ってきました。
少し関係外の話から入りますが、国際関係論は何のために研究されているのか、政府（どの国にしても）は果たしてこれを拠り所にして政策をなさっていたのでしょうか。前期から初めて国際関係論をとり始めからこの素朴な疑問にさらされていました。
最近のNew Yorkerの記事をみれば、国際関係論の存在感が少し見えてきました。

去年の四月このブログを書き始めたから、丁度一年になりました。
グーグルでバークレーと交換留学のキーワードで検索したら、ひとページ目に自分のブログが出てきたのに驚きました。
お世話になった同じくバークレーに交換留学をされた方々のブログに比べる、内容がほとんどなく後輩に役にたちそうなこと何一つ書いていませんでした。
あと二週間ちょっとで帰国ということですが、ファイナルのみならず、一年間の交換留学全体を締めくくる段階に入ってきました。結論から言えば、失敗した交換経験だったかもしれません。個人的な成長はあったものの、一般の方々にも共感してもらえるようなものはおそらく無かったと思います。
加えて卒業論文をアメリカで完成することは不可能だと判断されました。
帰ってからまた一年間学校で授業を取り、ゼミに参加し、地道に努力を積み重ねてやっと卒業ができるということが判明しました。
仕事も見つけ、必ず４年間で卒業もするという野心的だった私にとっては、挫折といっても過言ではありません。
長ーい夏休みを利用して、せめて授業で勉強になったことをブログにまとめようと思っています。

After viewing the critique written by a friend of mine,
The Perdurability of Ephemerality
I came into a very long period of self-criticism, trying to blame everything that made me not be able to write something as good as she did, despite the fact that she received the kind of education only with less resources than I did. Being 2 years younger than me, I can hardly imagine how many books she had read and how much writing she has been practicing, probably more talented admittedly, there is just no single reason for me to justify the effortless past 6 years.
No matter how harsh the family issue and living environment had been burdens on my mentality, being excellent is never a too complicated thing to do.
Indulging myself in such unrestrained style of life, I kept extorting the advantages of being a 'foreigner' rather than situating myself in the society as a part of it.
Never did I command of Japanese as a semi-native Japanese, given the fact that I have already lived in Japan for over a quarter of my life.
No excuses anymore, you are simply with no chance of surviving in this brutal world.
No need to look back and victimize yourself any longer, for your family owes you nothing.
Wake up and try hard.
You have 1 more year to go, 1 more critical and decisive year to see how far can you go.
